National Talent Search Examination ( NTSE ) is a scholarship program conducted nationally by National Council of Educational Research and Training ( NCERT ). NCERT was established by the Government of India in the year 1961 with a view to bring qualitative improvement in school education in the country. In this direction, NCERT initiated many programs. One such program is the National Talent Search Examination ( NTSE ).
NTSE is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious examinations at high school level in India. Students pursuing Class X are eligible to take the examination.
The purpose of NTSE is to identify and nurture talented students and provide scholarship for pursuing courses in sciences and social sciences up to doctoral level and in professional courses like medicine and engineering up to second-degree level subject to the fulfillment of the conditions provided in the guidelines.

Examination:
The examination is conducted every year at two levels:
Selection:
Selection for Stage I is conducted by States / UTs and those who qualify Stage I examination, are eligible to appear for Stage II examination conduction at National Level by NCERT.
Qualifying Marks for candidates from General category is 40% in each paper and for candidates from SC, ST and PH is 32% in each paper
Eligibility:
All students of Class X studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the Stage-I examination, conducted by the States / UTs, in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction. Students registered under Open Distance Learning ( ODL ) will also be eligible for scholarship, provided:

At Stage II ( National Level ), there will be negative marks in each paper. For each wrong answer, 1/3rd marks will be deducted. No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.
